photoI am amused at the number of misconceptions or rather delusions people have about Nutrition, and Health achieved through food. Being a “Hardcore Foodie” myself, I have no qualms admitting that Food indeed is my First Love! I spend a lot of my time reading about food, trying out new recipes, adding my own twists to them, that is – when I am not busy eating 😉

A Homeopathic Physician by profession now a Counsellor in the field of Nutrition as well, I find myself in discussions with people who are looking to be healthy and yet want to enjoy good food. To this I ask who doesn’t want to eat good food? Who would consciously choose repulsive or sad food over a delicious meal!

Being raised in a house, where everyone in the family enjoys delicious foods daily has really worked to my advantage, when it comes to planning a meal for us and when I am counselling. I am thus completely convinced that it is possible to be madly in love with food and yet be very healthy and fit.

When we once (even for a short while!) choose to embrace a slightly healthier lifestyle (than what we already are living) and make well-informed food choices, we start seeking out foods that work well for us.

I can definitely acknowledge this in my own case – where certain so-called-good-rich foods I can no longer relish eating in large portions because of the way they make me feel when I eat them and after I have eaten them.

Mind you! – I used the words large portions here, because it is okay to indulge once in a while, the key to this is ‘balance’. So in those days when we eat our ‘extra-ultra-healthy meals’ a balance is then discovered in indulging in ‘a-so-called-sinful bite’ 😉 This balancing act can prove tough though! Phew!!

I would any given day enjoy – or rather relish a freshly baked potato, just out of the oven- warm and garnished with salt, diced tomatoes and onions, olives, oregano, rosemary, thyme and little bit of feta cheese over a typical serving of fries! I’d not only score on the taste, but rather get brownie points on the ‘calories’

So I again say that is so much easier to make well-informed choices every time we eat and cook! Please remember – “yum” food does not always qualify “rich over-indulgent” food and in the same breath “healthy” food does not mean “blah-boring-depressing-lackluster-unappetizing”
